designs in crystal stemware vary from the simple understated shapes of the
Scandinavian designs, to the more decorative and intricately cut designs of
Irish crystal. Be sure to look, too, at the Portuguese, Austrian and Czech
crystal.

contemplating a bud vase or a dazzling chandelier? No matter, we have the finest
in both items. Anyone who is looking for an impressive trophy to present,

I begin when it comes to china? The choice of china and tableware on the is
truly impressive. The well-known European manufacturers are well represented

Wedgwood’s ‘Florentine’ pattern
is a classic; it entertained us even as small children. The dragons and mythical
characters hopped off the delicate plates and chased away the tastes of spinach
and Brussels sprouts.

designers pay lip service these time-honoured patterns; the spare decoration
applied to simple, more graphic shapes produces patterns that are equally as

BERMUDA-MADE INSPIRATIONS…
I take delight in introducing visitors and houseguests to some of the lesser-known
Bermuda-made treasures. As an illustrator, I take real pleasure in giving
my artist friends some well-deserved promotion.
LIMITED EDITION ‘COLLECTIBLES’
Unusual Bermuda-inspired ‘collectibles’ include ‘Bermuda
Images’, a collection of limited edition porcelain pieces - vases, platters,
plates and the like. Their contemporary shapes are embellished with reproductions
of paintings by O’Hara, Pleissener and Homer, which can be seen in The
Masterworks Collection.
UNIQUE TO THE ISLAND
The Palmetto provided early settlers with everything from a drink (made from
the berries) to the material for hats, handbags and fans. Creative people
like Ronnie Chameau and Diedre Furtardo make wonderful dolls and decorations
by working with dried palmetto and banana leaves. Buy one of these pieces
and you can be sure it will become a family heirloom.
THE ROMANCE OF CIGARS
Stop in at Chatham House on Front Street and talk to their staff. This shop
is a popular place with Bermuda’s cigar smokers. You can choose from
Churchills, Coronas, Figurados, Robustos…spirited Cuban cigars, fine
English tobaccos, cheroots and European cigarettes.

BOOKS ON BERMUDA
